A.M. Aikin Regents Chair in Education Leadership
Lee Hage Jamail Regents Chair in Education Dr. Manuel J. Justiz, a former director of the National Institute of Education, has been Dean of the College of Education at The University of Texas at Austin since January 1, 1990.
Dr. Justiz was appointed by President Reagan and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 1982 as Director of the National Institute of Education in Washington, D.C., where he served from 1983 to 1985 under former Secretary of Education Terrel Bell. In that capacity, he served as principal spokesman for educational policy and research to the President, Secretary, Congress, and education associations.

In addition to his position as President of The University of Texas at Austin, he is also a University Distinguished Teaching Professor. He holds the Hines H. Baker and Thelma Kelley Baker Chair in Law at the School of Law, where he served as Dean from 2000-2005.

Before that, he was senior Vice President of Corporate
Affairs and Human Resources for Shell Oil Company.
Mr. Hofmeister is a member of the National Academy of
Human Resources and is Chairman of the Advisory
Committee of the Centre for Advanced
Human Resources Studies at Cornell University.

Beth Ann Bryan is a nationally known and respected member of the education community. As Senior Education Advisor to the firm, Ms. Bryan assists various entities, both in the private and public sector, with implementation of the new national education reforms. She also counsels clients on other education policy issues.�
Prior to joining Akin Gump, Ms. Bryan served as a Senior Advisor to U.S. Secretary of Education Roderick Paige. She was involved with several key initiatives, including the "No Child Left Behind" Act of 2001, reading, teacher quality and preparation, Head Start and early childhood. She served as a member of the President's Commission on Excellence in Special Education and also worked closely with Laura Bush's office on all of Mrs. Bush's education initiatives. Prior to joining the U.S. Department of Education, Ms. Bryan served as an Education Advisor to Governor George W. Bush and to the Texas Governor's Business Council.�

Keynote Speaker
Mark G. Yudof was appointed Chancellor of The University of Texas System by the Board of Regents becoming the ninth Chancellor of the UT System on August 1, 2002.
He came to the Chancellor's office from the University of Minnesota, where he was president emeritus, having led the university since July 1997. Previously, he was a faculty member and administrator at UT Austin for 26 years, serving as Dean of the School of Law from 1984 to 1994 and as the university's Executive Vice President and Provost from 1994 to 1997.
As chancellor, Yudof is the chief administrative Officer of one of the nation's largest higher education systems with an annual operating budget of $9.6 billion (FY 2006). The UT System confers one-third of the state's undergraduate degrees and educates three-fourths of the state's health care professionals annually. With more than 76,000 employees, the UT System is one of the largest employers in the state.

After almost ten years with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), first as a science specialist, then as Director of Science Projects, in 1991 Kamil encountered his greatest challenge and greatest opportunity in this Land of Opportunity - founding the Texas Regional Collaboratives for Excellence in Science Teaching. Under his leadership, this joint project between TEA and The University of Texas at Austin has grown into a dynamic, statewide network of P-16 partnerships which have improved the knowledge, skills, and performance of over 12,000 teachers and benefited over one million students.
