BLOCKS Resource Center
The NSF-funded Building BLOCKS for Science research study involves extensive classroom observation by teachers and researchers of prekindergarten children’s ability to learn science processes and content; delivery of intensive professional development and mentoring support for Prekindergarten teachers to learn science; and development of qualitative, as well as, quantitative assessment strategies.
The project offers a unique opportunity to investigate the boundary between Pre-K and K-2 science understanding and build a foundation for subsequent knowledge and skills acquisition, asking and answering the question: What can we expect children entering kindergarten to know and be able to do in science? Data collection is ongoing in a variety of Austin area “school” settings, including public and private preschool classrooms, head start programs, and childcare facilities, where children are exposed to hands-on science activities, giving them an opportunity to demonstrate their science skills and indicate their science conceptual understanding.

Thus, media and classrooms are places with powerful opportunities to impact our society. Her passion and commitment to communicate science, environment and human issues remains the same. Her journey on sharing valuable messages to touch lives –students and families- has transferred to a higher level because seeing the world from the perspective of a four and five years old is priceless.
