Region 12 Collaborative / Waco
Mission
To organize and support a network of Region 12 science teachers, higher education instructors, and community stakeholders in order to promote excellence in science teaching.
Accomplishments
Over the past 10 years ESC Region 12 has had numerous teachers develop and demonstrate leadership skills and accomplishments in science teaching and instruction. At the 14th Annual Texas Regional Collaboratives meeting, Pam Baldree of Blooming Grove ISD was the recipient of the Shell Oil Company Mentoring Excellence Award. ESC Region 12 currently has a third group of educators involved in the Master Science Teacher program. Many STMs have presented at NASA, CAST, TEPSA, district-wide and campus-based trainings, and other events to encourage involvement in science. Currently over 100 Science Teacher Mentors and over 100 Cadre Members are actively participating in professional development and mentoring that includes strategies and instruction for such areas as: Journaling; 5 E Model of Instruction; Chemistry, Earth science, TAKS vocabulary; Formative Assessment; Biology; Astronomy; Science Safety; and more.
