Region 9 Collaborative / Wichita Falls

Untitled document

Mission

The Collaborative for Excellence in Science Teaching, part of the Region 9 Education Service Center, focuses on sustained professional development for its teachers in science content and strategies for teaching science. The Collaborative is committed to meeting the educational needs of all learners and actively fosters the growth and development of pedagogy for science educators. Collegiality and collaborative interaction are emphasized to improve the learning community for all teachers and, by extension, for their students.

Accomplishments

For this year, our science collaborative has a goal of working with 40 Science Teacher Mentors in all grades from K-12. Each of these teacher mentors will work with at least three other teachers for a total of at least 120 Cadre Members. Most of the STMs have been able to reach the goal of 105 hours of training and work with their cadre members for the goal of 12 hours. We are proud that one of our teachers, Dave Holbert, received the Outstanding Teaching Award given by the Texas Regional Collaboratives office at the Annual Meeting. His work with students and teachers at Wichita Falls HS has been exceptional.
