PREPARING FOR TAKS
In January 2000, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and educators throughout the State of Texas began working together on the development of the new testing program mandated in 1999 by Senate Bill 103 during the 76th session of the Texas Legislature. This collaboration has resulted in the enclosed sets of TAAS II Objectives and TEKS Student Expectations, which provide the basis for the new program in the spring of 2003.

On June 18, 2001 TAAS II was renamed the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) and became the new statewide assessment program in 2003.
