We will have a field experience on June 9th to Natural Bridge Caverns and Aquarena Springs in San Marcos. A chartered bus will provide transportation. Lunch and the cost of admission will be covered in your registration costs. We will partner with the Texas Stream Team at Aquarena Springs and they will provide bacteria monitor trainings with: (1) background informa¬tion to develop an understanding of bacterial characteristics and the water quality regulations designed to protect people from contaminated waterways; (2) sample collection procedures to familiarize participants with appropriate use and handling of monitoring equipment and collection of representa¬tive samples; (3) media storage and preparation; (4) proper dilu¬tion, plating, and incubation procedures; (5) colony counting and mathematical conversion experience; and (6) proper documentation and safety procedures. The training will take one and a half hours, and consists of both indoor and out¬door segments to provide participants with a hands-on, in-the-field experience that provides exceptional preparation for collecting bacte¬rial data at an approved monitoring site upon certification. We will also tour Spring Lake in a glass bottom boat, visit the wetlands, and aquarium, and collect and identify macro-invertebrates.

Bring: Please wear comfortable clothes that will be appropriate for hot temperatures and the cool air-conditioning in the hotel. You will need good closed toed walking shoes for the cave. You should also bring a hat, sunscreen, water bottle, and camera. If possible, also bring your laptop computer.
