TRC Podcasts

The Texas Regional Collaboratives is exploring the use of Podcasting for distribution of online professional development content. We conducted a pilot with the Region 19 Collaborative and ten middle school science educators, funded by the El Paso Corporation. We learned about support issues, authored online resources, and developed and tested a publishing process. We are now implementing an expansion plan to reach educators statewide. The crew above is our first group of podcast specialists who will soon be delivering regional training. The TRC Podcast Network is supported by the Toyota USA Foundation. Ongoing access to internet resources in science and technology education for Texas Regional Collaboratives teachers and educators is supported by AT&T Foundation, a TRC statewide corporate partner. Bookmark this page for a master index of TRC podcasts. Clicking on any of the Subscribe buttons below will subscribe you to the associated podcast. Your First Exploration of Podcasts
Step by Step

  1. Download iTunes 7
  2. Launch iTunes, select Podcasts in store (upper left col.)
  3. Browse featured podcasts, then select a category (left) such as Science and Medicine
  4. Browse content by New & Notable, Provider, Featured, or Top Podcast Groupings
  5. Select one by clicking on graphic or title
  6. Read description, click Subscribe if interested
  7. Navigate to your podcast library by clicking on purple Podcast icon (upper left)
  8. Expand Podcast Series title by clicking small triangle icon next to the title.
  9. Select episode that you just downloaded and click PLAY button (upper left)

I Just Clicked a Subscribe Button, What Now?


  1. Clicking a subscribe button adds a podcast series to the list of podcasts to be checked each time you launch iTunes.
  2. To listen, launch iTunes and click Podcast in your Library (upper left)
  3. Locate the tile of the podcast series.
  4. If required click the small triangle to see a list of episodes.
  5. Select an episode and click the Play button at the top of the screen to listen.
  6. Choose from the View menu, show artwork to see slides or video associated with a podcasts.
  7. If an episode is listed but grayed out, you can add it to your library by clicking the Get button.
  8. Delete podcast subscriptions by selecting the Series title and using your delete key.
  9. Add a series to your iPod, by dragging the series title to the iCon of your iPod as displayed in iTunes.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Stereotype Threat

Featuring Dr. Matt McGlone and Stef Paramoure
Stef Paramoure, TRC teacher from Comal ISD, hosts a podcast series titled Stereotype Threat. University of Texas researcher, Dr. Matt McGlone, delivers a presentation summarizing his research on the impact of stereotype threat on female students in STEM classes. Along with introducing the series and Dr. McGlone, Stef Paramoure recorded five video interviews. Matt and Stef discuss classroom methods, which can mediate the impact of stereotype threat on students. Stef Paramoure is to be�applauded�for the work she did in the production of this great�professional�development podcast series. The Texas Regional Collaborative would like to thank Matt McGlone for taking the time to share this important message with our TRC community of educators.

Interviews at CAST

This podcast series will feature interviews with regional collaborative presenters at CAST as well as STAT leadereship. Learn how CAST presenters are sharing their expertise, improving the quality of science instruction in Texas. The TRC Podcast Network recording studio will be set up in the TRC exhibit with live recording taking place throughout the conference. This will expose attendees to this new distribution medium and to the TRC plans for podcast content. Profound Understanding Of Children's Mathematics

his series of podcasts is devoted to the topic of understanding young children's thinking in mathematics. Three major components frame each of these podcasts: 1) how children think about and solve math problems, 2) the kinds of tasks that elicit children's thinking and, 3) how teachers can build a deep understanding of the mathematics they teach. Some of the podcasts in this series feature examples of children's work and a short assignment for listeners to do after they have listened to the podcast. Other podcasts feature interviews with experts in children's thinking about mathematics. �
