Aldine Collaborative / Houston
The UTACES Collaborative unites the University of Texas College of Engineering and Aldine ISD elementary science teachers of grades Pk-6. The goal of UTACES is to lay the foundation for Elementary Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (E-STEM) through DTEACh. UTACES works hand-in-hand with engineers and elementary teachers to establish a program that can be delivered locally and expanded nationally, E-STEM features the development of practical problem solving skills, hands-on technology exploration, open-ended design problems, and project reporting including communicating scientific information, describing design solutions, and answering questions. Our vision is to "Produce the Nation's Best!"
Accomplishments
We are embarking on the third year of our collaborative. Our STM, Tracy Mansfield, recieved the El Paso Corporation Mentoring Excellence Award at the Fourteenth Annual TRC Conference. Our collaborative has expanded to include grades PK-6. Our accomplishments include the creation and deployment the our elementary engineering program, E-STEM. Elementary-Science Technology, Engineering, and Mathemataics (E-STEM) is involved with developing student creativity, and is working with the Houston Museum of Art to incorporate Learning Through the Arts in our science program. Further, we are TEKS aligned, research based, and classroom tested.
