Region 17 Collaborative / Lubbock
Mission
To provide quality sustained professional development to teachers through collaboration between Texas Tech University and the Region 17 Education Service Center.
Accomplishments
Effective Collaboration:
Interaction of numerous departments and colleges within the university
and collaboration between teachers that have been historically isolated
in our rural region.
Subscribing to Sustained Professional Development:
Teachers serve as mentors to other teachers by presenting ESC workshops
to their peers and actively seek other professional development
opportunities as well as the chance to share their experiences when
networking at regional, state, and national meetings. Teachers have
improved their integration of technology and use of appropriate
technological tools in their classroom and are interested in continuing
with graduate school.
Numbers of Teachers Reached:
This year a team of 25 teachers will train extensively in content
material and train another 120 teachers within their districts.
What Makes Us Unique?
Texas Tech University faculty and master teachers work with teachers
across the region in their own classrooms to deliver and model science
instruction with classroom students in grades K-12.
Graduate students in the Multidisciplinary Science Program work towards a Master of Science degree during a three-year period and learn from a team of science research faculty who teach science content courses for conceptual understanding.
