Region 11 Collaborative / Fort Worth
Mission
The mission of the ESC Region XI Mathematics Collaborative is to increase district capacity to ensure secondary mathematics teachers have the knowledge and skills to engage students in meaningful math learning experiences. To accomplish this mission, the ESC Region XI Mathematics Collaborative, in partnership with Texas Woman’s University and the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, will provide 90 hours of sustained, high intensity professional development to district/charter recommended certified secondary teachers and private school secondary teachers. These teachers must be committed to completing the 90 hours of staff development to become a Mathematics Teacher Mentor (MTM). Each MTM will in turn serve as a resource for mathematics content and pedagogy on their secondary campus or in their district/charter. This model of 6-12 staff development is designed to improve student academic achievement and strengthen the quality of secondary math instruction in the classroom, on the campus, and within the district/charter.
Accomplishments
From 2006-2010 the ESC Region XI Mathematics Collaborative served more than 2000 teachers and mathematics leaders. Teachers who attended the professional development indicated that the new knowledge and skills acquired in the training would have a positive impact on the achievement of their students.
