Region 2 Collaborative / Corpus Christi

Mission

The mission of the Region 2 Mathematics Collaborative is to equip teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to engage students in meaningful learning; to become teacher leaders in mathematics; to provide sustained, targeted, research-based professional development; and to emerge them in professional pedagogical discussions and learning communities.

Accomplishments

Our collaborative has created two main cohorts of teachers, one for the elementary and the other for the secondary. Over the last two years, both cohorts have worked together to create instructional videos in various math content areas. They have participated in professional learning communities such as TOLC and Thinkfinity where they have shared many ideas for enhanced mathematics instruction. In the elementary cohort, several teachers became campus trainers for Thinkfinity after receiving training during the summer institute. This fall, one of our secondary teachers, Carlos Guerrero, was pronounced “the superstar” presenter of the TOEA conference for his many and varied math-content activity presentations.

Events and Activities

We have currently posted our first online Moodle course which is a book study on "Teach Like Your Hair Is On Fire". Teachers are using the e-readers they received this summer to read the book and then they take the online course. Also, teachers have been using our group in Thinkfinity to respond to discussions hosted by our IHE ITM.
