Region 8 Collaborative/Mount Pleasant
Mission
The mission of the Region 8 Collaborative for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching is to grow teacher leaders through targeted professional development and job embedded experiences which develop teacher pedagogy and instructional best practices.
Accomplishments
The Region 8 Math Collaborative continues to grow. The 2010-2011 cycle marked many accomplishments. This cycle marked the second year the collaborative exceeded the projected number of Math Teacher Mentors participating in the program with 33 teachers completing the program. In addition, a summary of completed hours by math teacher mentors indicated that on average participants of the Math Teacher Mentor Program completed 95 hours of professional activities exceeding the 85 hour minimum by 10 additional hours of training. This cycle also was the first year in which the program activities utilized an online learning community to facilitate part of the required professional development activities. This has strengthened the relationship with our districts in that it has minimized the amount of time teachers are out of the classroom.
