Mission

The mission of the ESC-20 mathematics team is to build leadership capacity through long-term and intensive training with teacher leaders. Participants attend high quality, relevant training in concepts specifically correlated to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for mathematics.

Accomplishments

Our main goal is to improve academic achievement of students in mathematics by providing high quality, sustained, and high intensity professional development focused on the education of mathematics teachers as a career-long process.  The process is designed to strengthen teachers' knowledge and skills by fostering teachers' thinking through the big ideas of K-12 mathematics and analyzing the development of those ideas in the classroom.

Our teachers and curriculum coordinators have received 12 to 134 hours of training.  Many of our teachers have participated in ongoing professional development throughout the school year, and are on their way to becoming mathematics leaders on their campuses.   In fact, all seven of the high school MTMs elected to return for a second year.

One of our most promising high school teachers, Peter Barrera from Pleasanton ISD, was a recipient of this year's Distinguished Teaching Award at the TRC Annual Meeting in Austin.  What he's learned in the TRC has helped him become an inspiration to his colleagues.
