Region 11 Collaborative / Fort Worth

Untitled document

Mission

The Mission of the ESC Region XI Science Collaborative is to increase district capacity to ensure K-12 science teachers will have the knowledge and skills to engage students in meaningful science learning experiences.

Accomplishments

Region XI's collaborative has been modeled around a vertical team concept. Each of the school districts, charter schools or private schools that are involved in this collaborative send teachers from their high schools, their middle schools and from their elementary schools to attend all the training that is offered whether or not it is at an elementary, middle or high school level. In this manner, each of the districts will have a team of teachers that can serve as advocates in their district for science education at all grade levels, mentor to other science teachers and provide good sound instruction in their own classrooms.

By the end of the first two year cycle, we had provided an average of 105 hours of science staff development to 55 school teachers from nine Independent School Districts, two Private Schools and one Charter School campus. This school year (2007-2008) we will be providing the same high quality science staff development to 30 science teachers from nine new school districts with-in the Region XI Education Service Center area.

Our greatest accomplishment therefore is our mission to build teacher leadership in science education in each of our collaborative districts.
