Capital City Regional Collaborative / Austin

Mission

The Capital City Collaborative is dedicated to providing educators with the skills and knowledge to impart to their students science concepts through inquiry-based instruction that:

  • reflects real life situations.
  • utilizes relevant curricula.
  • creates an environment that encourages divergent thinking, emphasizes hands-on/minds-on experiences, and applies ever-changing technology.
  • fosters cooperative and independent problem-solving using scientific inquiry, critical thinking skills, and effective communication.

Accomplishments

The Capital City Collaborative delivers rigorous professional development to Austin area middle school and high school educators in science concepts, with a focus on Chemistry and Physics.

Educators participate in professional development that is field-based, relevant to the community, aligned with current best practices and state standards, and embedded with inquiry teaching and learning structures.  Educators are provided with opportunities to collaborate with area universities and schools, state science centers and facilities, and other science professionals and experts.  Educators are expected to take a leadership role on their campuses and in the district by sharing in professional learning communities, mentoring other teachers, and demonstrating high-quality instruction in their classrooms.
