Region 18 Collaborative / Midland

Mission

The mission of the Region 18 Science Collaborative is to provide sustained, research-based training opportunities for early childhood through secondary teachers in an effort to improve content knowledge and pedagogical practices.  Leadership development, collaboration, modeling, and mentoring models are employed in an effort to produce positive change in student learning and retention in the area of science.

Accomplishments

The Region 18 Collaborative has a reputation as a highly worthwhile experience. Many past and present participants have become leaders in their districts and have reported success in raising the scores of their students. They enjoy collaborating with teachers across the region and often share materials, lessons, and ideas. Region 18 STM's are provided with unique opportunities to participate in field experiences. This  includes field work at Sibley Nature Center, Mott Creek Ranch near Floydata, The Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute, McDonald Observatory, Monahan Sandhills State Park,  McKittrick Canyon State Park, and Big Bend National Park.
