Region 15 Collaborative / San Angelo

Untitled document

Mission

To create a science learning community for Concho Valley teachers, schools, and districts through program development and sustained teacher professional development in science content, pedagogy, and curriculum development.

Accomplishments

In 2008-2009, Region XV STMs received training in Chemistry for All as well as chemistry training appropriate for the elementary grades. In addition, GeoSciences, research-based pedagogy, and science instructional strategies have been presented this year. 36 of our STMs attended the 2008 CAST conference in Fort Worth in November. Robin Dehnel and Ginger Anderson presented a Physics for All workshop at CAST. Upon returning from the conference, we hosted a mini-CAST here at the ESC for two days of sharing lessons and information collected there. STMs are mentoring their Cadre Members and providing them with information they receive at these trainings.

We look forward to the fall 2009 workshops which include physics training and other TAKS-related inservice. We are hosting our workshops in our spectacular science lab here at the service center! Our science lab facility is a model of safety and has awesome technological capabilities, including distance learning. The enthusiasm and devotion of our mentors is a driving force that makes our collaborative a successful venture!
