Mission

The Galveston County Regional Collaborative (GRC) is committed to advancing the quality of science education in the nine surrounding Galveston County school districts by:

  1. Enhancing the quality, quantity and diversity of the K-12 teacher workforce by providing high quality professional development opportunities for educators that focus on the TEKS and national standards;
  2. Facilitating teacher implementation of relevant science learning experiences that will significantly reduce achievement gaps in the mathematics and science performance of diverse student populations, increase the scientific literacy of all students, and also serve as an inspiration for students to pursue future careers in math, science, and engineering;
  3. Supplying year round educator support to facilitate classroom implementation of these science activities;
  4. Fostering mentoring and enabling other information exchange/networking between teachers;
  5. Developing evidence-based outcomes for efforts to mentor and educate teachers and students.

Accomplishments

  1. Provide an Annual Regional Science Teachers Conference for K-12th grade teachers at UTMB
  2. Leveraged funds and co-sponsored workshops and conferences with the Southeast Regional T-STEM Center
  3. Provide TEKS aligned, inquiry-based workshops for K-8th grade teachers throughout the academic school year which include supplies for classroom implementation
  4. Established an Educational Resource Center that loans equipment, kits, and supplies for K-12th grade teachers at UTMB
  5. Established an "Adventures in Science" after school program for K-5th grade students and teachers (TAMUG)
  6. Published Space Connections (in English and Spanish), a book of hands-on, standards-based activities created by teachers for teachers for implementation in grades 6-12.
