TAMU-College Station Regional Collaborative/ College Station

Untitled document

Mission

To create a science learning community for the greater Brazos Valley/Region VI ESC area teachers, schools, and districts through sustained teacher professional development and leadership training in content, pedagogy, and mentoring. We also provide resources and support for collaborative members in order to facilitate increases in student achievement.

Accomplishments

During 2008-2009, the Texas A&M Regional Collaborative trained 15 secondary science teachers from 12 districts in Physics for All and Chemistry for All and 15 K-8 teachers representing 8 districts in geoscience, chemistry, and research-based pedagogy.  Twenty-eight of our STMs attended the CAST conference held in Fort Worth in November, and the secondary teachers presented a great short course called "Physics-It's Elementary" to an overflow crowd. We worked with the Colleges of Science and Engineering to present the Texas A&M STEM Summit held in January in College Station. All the secondary teachers attended this event and several of them presented at the summit. We collaborated with the Department of Geology and Geophysics in July to present G-Camp, a fabulous two-week geology field experience in Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado for Grades 4-12 teachers from across Texas.
